WARREN FRENCH LYONS
In the early morning of 15 Oct 1837 Comanche Indians swooped down on the farm of James Lyons family, sixteen miles fr LaGrange, killed the father, James Lyons, took captive the youngest son, Warren.
- Excepts fr article published in the Schulenburg Sticker 2 Aug 1935 written by C.M. Barnes in 1906'
- Warren Lyons was 12 yrs old when the Comanche Indians kidnapped him. In the 10 yrs he lived with them, he was instructed in the way of Indian life and warfare and fully adopted their way of life. He dressed like a Indian, he learned to ride bareback, he became very adept with the bow
and rifle, also the lariat. He was an expert swimmer, and, like the Indian, never slept under a roof. In 1847 several white men, neighbors of the Lyons fam, were in Fredricksburg, TX when Comanche Indians entered the town to do some peaceful trading. The neighbors noticed the young white man with the Comanches. After verifying he was WARREN LYONS, they persuaded him to return home with them.

Warren found it very hard to adjust to the white man's life again. He joined the Rangers and served under Major Edward Burleson. The Rangers had many encounters with the Indians. Warren's knowledge of the Indian language enabled him to translate the Indian commands to his commanding
officer which proved very helpful.
