Mrs. Emily Christine Thackston
Brooklet, Georgia

Mrs. Emily Christine Thackston, age 79, died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Gentilly Gardens Assisted Living Facility under the care of Odyssey HealthCare. The Telfair County native lived most of her life in Bulloch County. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern College where she had received her Masters of Education and Education Specialist degrees. Mrs. Thackston retired after 35 years of service with the Bulloch County Board of Education. She was the 1973 Star Teacher. Mrs. Thackston was a member of the Bulloch County Historical Society and the Brooklet First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thackston; her parents, E.D. and Mary Ellen Shaw; a son, Jim Thackston and three brothers, Eugene, Bernard and Raymond Shaw.

Surviving are a daughter and son in law, Emily and Steve Cordell of Brooklet; three grandchildren, John, Matthew and Cassi Cordell all of Brooklet; a sister, Barbara Shaw of Atlanta, and a brother and sister in law, Ed and Lucy Shaw of Jesup. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were Monday, July 6, 2010 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Green officiating.
Interment followed in the Eastside Cemetery.
