Robert "Rob" Irving Judd Jr., 61, of South Kingstown, formerly of East Hartford, Conn., journeyed home to join his son Bryan in Heaven on Friday, June 25, 2010. He was the loving husband of Sally M. (Popik) Judd for 42 years.
Born in Hartford on Aug. 25, 1948, he was a son of Robert I. and Charlotte (Treggor) Judd of Manchester. Rob grew up and attended schools in East Hartford, attended East Catholic High School, Manchester, and graduated from George J. Penney High School, Class of 1966 in East Hartford.
Rob was a proud U.S. Navy veteran during the Vietnam era where he was a submariner who served on the USS Halfbeak. Prior to his retirement, Rob was employed for 33 years by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Manchester.
Rob was a former communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford and a faithful communicant and lector at St. Mary's/St. James Church in Charlestown, R.I. A man of great faith, Rob belonged to a small Christian community group at St. Christopher Church where he was also a lector, and often volunteered at the Rhode Island Center Assisting Those in Need Food Pantry in Charlestown.
An avid outdoorsman, Rob enjoyed fishing, clamming, bodysurfing, boating, canoeing, motorcycle riding, running, and playing softball. He played softball for over 20 years with his fellow postal employees in leagues both in East Hartford and Manchester. He also ran and participated in the annual Manchester Thanksgiving Day Road Race for several years. Rob was a longtime loyal fan of the New York Yankees and of the UConn basketball teams. However, Rob most of all was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Rob was predeceased by his only son, Bryan Sverre Judd of East Hartford. Along with his beloved wife, Sally, and his parents, Rob is survived by his two loving daughters, Shannon Andrea Noble of East Hartford, Emily Linnae Judd and her partner, Gosia Barczyk, of Rocky Hill; four adored grandchildren, Trenton Tyler Noble, Phoenix Bryan Noble, Cambden Avery Noble, all of East Hartford, and Asyria Royelle Judd of Rocky Hill. He also leaves four brothers, Eric Judd and his wife, Dory, Peter Judd, Tim Judd and his wife, Lori, all of Manchester, and Patrick Judd stationed in Iraq with the Army National Guard; two sisters, Dr. Christine Amis and her partner, Marie, of South Yarmouth, Mass., Andrea Laws and her fiancé, Yves Michaud, of East Hartford; a former son-in-law, Matt Noble of Southington; a special aunt, Evelyn Babella of Manchester; many nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow co-workers, and dear friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 1, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Thursday morning).
Burial with military honors will follow at East Cemetery, Manchester. Relatives and friends may call at the D'Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford on Wednesday, June 30, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Rob's memory may be made to the Rhode Island Center Assisting Those in Need (RICAN), P.O. Box 204, Charlestown, RI 02813.
Rob's family also asks that anyone who can, please bring a non-perishable food item to the funeral home chapel to be donated to the local food pantries in Rob's memory.

You still live on in the hearts and minds,
Of the loving family you left behind.

A garden of beautiful memories,
Sprayed with a million tears.

Beautiful memories are treasured forever,

Loved with a love beyond all feeling,
Missed with a grief beyond all tears.
