Loyce Quitman Roberts was born on Tuesday, November 11, 1930 in O'Brien, Suwannee County, Florida to Columbus Orlando and Lula Mae Scarborough Roberts. He grew up on the family farm in O'Brien with his parents, brothers and sisters. He married the love of his life, Grace Meredith, on April 24, 1956 in Hendry, Florida. They started their married life there but soon moved back home to O'Brien. Loyce and Grace were blessed with six children, three boys Leroy Quitman, Glen Elvin and Loyce Emlow, and three girls, Nancy Lula, Frances and Irma Leah. They lived the rest of their married lives in O'Brien and were really happy and blessed. Loyce was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Army National Guard retiring after 32 years of service. He was also a lifetime member of O'Brien Baptist Church. Loyce could do almost anything. I don't know what we would have done without them all these years. They helped us so much when we moved here back in 1974. They were the first people we met here and we have been friends and neighbors ever since. I recently found out that we are not just friends but relatives as well. That just made it sweeter. Loyce went to Heaven on Friday, August 7, 2009 after a long illness. His funeral was conducted at the O'Brien Baptist Church and he was laid to rest in the O'Brien Cemetery where he received full military honors. As I write this we are all mourning the death of his wife, Grace. She just went to Heaven on June 30th of 2010. Her funeral was yesterday on July 3, 2010 at O'Brien Baptist Church and she was laid to rest by her husband, Loyce, in the O'Brien Cemetery. She never got over the loss of Loyce so I know that she is happy and reunited with him and is now in the arms of Jesus. I am Joan Roberts Register and today's date is Sunday, July 4, 2010.
