JAMES McCULLOH BROGDEN was born on 20 August 1832 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland to Dr. William Brogden and Mary M. Stevenson.

James married Eleanor Addison Gittings-Brogden circa 1857, and they had NINE children that are known of:

Mary Stevenson Brogden (1858-1949),
James Charles Brogden (1860-1916),
William Brogden (1861-1938),
Rebekah Nicols Brogden (1863-1950),
Margaret Smith Brogden (1865-1944),
John Gittings Brogden (1867-1932),
Arthur Brogden (1869-1909),
Henry Carter Brogden (1871-1948), and
Eleanor Addison Gittings "EAG" Brogden-Reynolds (1876-1940).

James passed away on 1 July 1899 in Anne Arundle County, Maryland, and he was laid to rest at Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery in Long Green, Baltimore County, Maryland.
