Marion H. Chaffin was listed as 4 years old on the 23 April, 1910 census of Putnam County, Tennessee. A Putnam County, Tennessee death record lists Marion Chaffin's death date as January 1, 1911 in Putnam County, Tennessee and says he was 4 years old, born in Jackson County, Tennessee. The death record is signed by the county clerk, says Marion's physician was Dr. Endsor and Marion died of an 'abscess of brain'. In the memoirs of Okla K. 'Okley' Chaffin (older brother of Marion Chaffin) he says 'On March 13, 1906 the 8th child was born to my parents. He was named Marion Harris for another beloved Church of Christ preacher. Little Marion was a sweet, chubby brown-eyed boy who made friends with everybody. He did not stay with us very long. He passed away on January 1, 1911. He was almost five when he died of pneumonia'. It is probable Marion's gravestone has been misread because of age damage, and the chiseled birth year is 1906, not 1908. He was not 2 years old when he died, but 4 years old.
Okla Chaffin said in his own memoirs his name was Okla Chaffin. His parents didn't name him for awhile but finally started calling him Okla in fondness for the few years they spent in Oklahoma between early 1893 and 1897 when they went back to Tennessee before his birth. Okla said he never had a middle name, so he added a 'K' to make his full name Okla K. 'Okley' Chaffin.
