Robert J. Riedel, age 79, died Friday afternoon, June 25, 2010, at the Meade District in Meade. He was born Feb. 26, 1931, in rural Russell County, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Brown) Riedel.
On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Norma JoAnn Wagner at Russell, Kansas. She survives.
A resident of Plains since 1959, he was the owner and operator of R & R Lease Service Inc. of Plains.
Other survivors include a son, Bob Riedel and wife, Marlene, of Ottawa; two daughters, Debbie McVay and husband, David, of Plains, and Susan Holt and husband, Craig, of Booker, Texas; three brothers, Ronnie Riedel of Cottonwood, Ariz., Kenneth Riedel of Burbank, Calif., and Dick Riedel of Surprise, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Riedel, on April 5, 1993, and his parents.
The rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Plains. Private family inurnment will be in the Plains Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
