Fay R. "Slim" Johnson, 88, passed away Tuesday, May 25 at his home.

He was born March 31, 1916 in Heber, UT, as the third child of Andrew Ralph and Sarah Luella Cummings Johnson. He married Nena Elizabeth Richins October 15, 1938 in Provo, UT, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they are the parents of five children.

Fay attended school in Heber City where he graduated from Wasatch High School. He worked in construction, with the CCC, helped build Deer Creek Dam, and worked as a senior melder in the open hearth at US Steel. He was a former member of Orem Boosters where he served as president.

He was active in the LDS church, serving as bishop, in the MIA, as high councilman, and as high priest group leader.

He was an avid fisherman and an accomplished artist. His paintings are treasured by all who are lucky enough to have them. His love of sports has been passed to his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful example and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife and five children: Joyce Ann Bunting, Paso Robles, CA; William R. Johnson, Murray, UT; David F. (June) Johnson, Salem, UT; J. Neil (Marilyn) Johnson, Orem, UT; and Jerry R. (Jeanie) Johnson, Pleasant Grove, UT; and by 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grand-children. He is also survived by his brother and three sisters: Jay (Theda) Johnson, Salt Lake City, UT; Atha Montgomery, Orem, UT; Mae Murdock, Heber City, UT; and Nona (Leo) Babb, Heber City, UT.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 28, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem 12th Ward Building, 695 S. 300 W. Salem, UT. A viewing will be held Thurs., May 27 from 6-8 p.m. at Walker-Sanderson Mortuary, 646 E. 800 N. Orem, and Friday May 28 from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the Salem 12th Ward Building. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
