Jim was a descendant from pioneer families (Anderson Darneille) who trekked to Oregon via the Oregon Trail in 1853 and Mary Poteet Gilmore (James) who came to Douglas Co., Oregon via the Oregon Trail/Applegate Trail in 1852. Jim's paternal great-grandmother was Mahala Poteet McGee who was the sister of Mary Poteet Gilmore. His mother, Rachel Elizabeth Mee was the daughter of James Mee and Mary Jane Darneille Mee, Anderson's daughter.

Jim registered for the WWI draft on June 5, 1918 in Portland, Oregon. His home address was 30 E. 6th St, Portland, Oregon. He worked for George Mee in Ruch, Oregon. He listed his mother, Mrs. H.O. Rynbergen of the Portland address as his nearest relative. He is described as medium height, medium build, with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He eventually served during WW-I in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 2nd Class.

In 1920, he was living in a boarding house in Portland, Oregon with his mother, Rachel Mee Larimore Rynbergen (42 yrs) and his two half-brothers, George (7 yrs) & Otto Rynbergen (14 yrs). Jim was 23 yrs.


The 1930 U.S. Census for Portland, Oregon shows Jim married to Luella H.; they are boarding with Margaret Perfield and her family.


Jim married Dutchess Louise Hempstead in Vancouver, Clark Co., Washington 13 Jan. 1936. He was 39 yrs, Dutchess was 18. They both lived in Portland, Oregon. His sister, Verda Lamoreaux, witnessed the ceremony. He was a taxi owner and Dutchess had just graduated from high school.

Jim was a part-owner of a taxi company at the time of his death. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Portland, Oregon. His newborn daughter, and only child, was five weeks old at the time of his passing.
