Our father, Alva LeRoy "Roy" Allen, left this world on May 24, 2010. He lived a valiant life up to the end and died of causes incident to age. It was a privilege for his wife, his sons and daughters to care for him for the past several months at his home in Taylor.

He was born October 11, 1914 in Slaterville. He became "the man of the house" at the age of eight when his father freed himself from life. He married the love of his life, Glenna Pledger, in 1935. They began their life together in Slaterville, but he became a "city dweller" for a while in the Ogden Tenth Ward, where he gained many lifetime friends. He lived in Taylor; Idaho, and North Ogden, and returned to Taylor.

His wife of nearly 75 years, Glenna Pledger, will miss him dearly; along with his children LeAnn Casterline (Don), Roy; Vaughn Allen (Rondy), Taylor; VerDene Whittier (Jay), Sunset; Kaylene Spinden (Gerry), Roy; Scott Allen (Judy), Taylor. His daughter, Rita, died as a baby and will be happy to see him. He had a "numerous and choice posterity," as he liked to refer to them—24 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, and 24 great great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Elmer Allen, California; and Orvil Holley, Slaterville. We have many precious memories, including large family gatherings in his home and backyard grove—which he made so beautiful; traveling in his RV; working on the farm; and just enjoying life together.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Rita; father and mother, George and Amelia Ekins Allen (Holley), stepfather Ezra Holley, brother Merle Allen, and sister Edna Allen, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Roy owned and operated Allen Enterprises Dairy for 52 years; he also worked at Hill Air Force Base and expanded to farming in Idaho during part of that time. He loved being a Latter-Day-Saint, attending and working in the Temple, and serving in the Priesthood and Sunday School.

We gained a great appreciation for the Summit Hospice Nurse, Steve Booth; he loved Steve's visits.

Services for Roy will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Taylor Stake Center, 2200 South 4300 West, Ogden. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 1st at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd from 6 to 8 pm and Wednesday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 am. Interment, West Weber Cemetery.
