Naomi Elizabeth Woods Atkinson Surber passed away on June 5, 2010. She was born on March 5, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska to Roy B Woods and Lillian Burns Woods. She was the fourth of eight children.

Naomi graduated from the Methodist School of Nursing and worked at Des Moines General as an LPN and later at the Gentec Medical Supply Co. She took on the care of her parents and her business of childcare, retiring after the death of her parents.

In her retirement years, she enjoyed gardening and also cared for her neighbor Mr. Dale Reeves of Des Moines. She was a member of the Evergreen Church of Christ and enjoyed the fellowship of Christians.

Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Paul Woods. She leaves behind many life-long friends.

Naomi is survived by her sons, Rick(Carolyn) Atkinson of Des Moines, Rodney(Cindy) Atkinson of Lynnwood, Washington, Rex(Melissa) Surber JR of Owings Mills, MD; two adopted children, Glenn(Nancy) Surber of Kansas City, Missouri and Cheryl(Richard Martinex of Sanford, Florida; grandchildren Stephanie(Peter) Atkinson Marsh of Austin, Texas, Stacie Atkinson of Ankeny, Iowa, Christopher(Tina) Atkinson of Cockeysville, Maryland; Tara(Paul) Hicks of Shoreline, Washington, Tracie(Scott) Mashburn of McMinnville, Oregon, Christina Atkinson of Sheridan, Oregon; Garritt Surber of Owings Mills, Maryland; Christopher Surber of Missouri, Andrew Surber of Missouri; Caleb Martinez of Florida, and Jennifer(Michael) Martinex of Florida.

Siblings Esther(John) Merkel of Des Moines, Virgil(Susan) Woods of San Diego, California, John Woods of Kansas City, Kansas, Raymond(Lu) Woods of San Diego, California, Charles(Verla) Woods of West Des Moines, and Richard Woods of Portland, Oregon; her ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews to mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, June 10 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home with a visitation beginning from 9am to service time on Thursday. Following the service, Naomi's body will be cremated and burial of the cremated remains will be at the Clairfield Cemetery in Clairfield, Iowa at a later date.--MY NOTE, this was incorrectly changed at the newspaper, it should state, Clearfield Cemetery, Ringgold Co, Iowa.

Naomi was an organ donor.
