Lewis "Louie" Stover was the son of James "Jim" Stover and Elsie. He was a full-blood Cherokee.

More on Jim Stover:
Jim (Tsu-ni) was born between 1862 and 1865 and died on Aug. 4, 1894. He was shot and killed by Bill Chuie/Chewie.

Jim's mother was Nellie (Ne-li) no last name, (she later married Nick Walker) and she was born about 1839 and died in April of 1915. Nellie was the daughter of Moses (Wo-si or Mo-si), who died before 1851 and Nancy (Nun-tsi or Nv-tsi), who died about 1855. Nellie had a brother, Runabout (A-de-tle-do-he), born about 1850 and died about 1863.

Jim's father was called Ta-la-la (which means woodpecker in Cherokee) or Elisha Stover. Elisha was the son of John Henry and Charlotte (Ward) Stover. It has been proven by a DNA test that descendants of Lewis Stover are related to descendants of John Henry and Charlotte Stover.

Jim also had a son with Katy Arche: Medicine (Madison) Stover.

Jim had an older brother, John Stover, who was born about 1860 or 1861 and died on (or about) Dec. 8, 1901. He also had 2 younger half brothers, Thomas (also called Hunter) and Samuel Dry. Thomas died on Mar. 13, 1914 and Samuel died Oct. 28, 1912. Their father was Peter (Que-da) Dry (U-ka-yo-da). He died in 1886.

More on Elsie:
Elsie (E-li-si) was born about 1850 and died in 1891. She was the daughter of Bear (Yo-na), also called Sweat Bee (Da-que-nu-tsa-la-ga) and Marie (Wa-li-ya). They both died on Dec. 25, 1864, according to Elsie's sister Mary (Ga-lo-nu-s-ki) Crittenden. Mary was born about 1847 and died Feb. 27, 1922. Elsie and Mary also had a brother, Ni-gu-tse-gi, born about 1844 and died in 1864.

According to Lewis's WWI draft registration card, his date of birth was Oct. 12, 1880. His WWII draft registration card has his date of birth as Oct. 15, 1881. The U.S., Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007:
