Mrs Columbus McFarland died at her home four miles Northeast of Camp Point yesterday morning, after a brief illness. Her condition had been considered critical for over a week, but death came, as always, unexpectedly.
Mary J Whitford was the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Brown) Whitford, and was born in Adams County Sept. 16th 1842. She was united in marriage to C Columbus McFarland Dec. 22, 1861. To this union four children were born: Rugh A, now Mrs Mark Curry, of Clayton Township; Thomas J, Oliver E and Ethel, now Mrs Harley Rutledge...Mrs McFarland, with her husband, settled on the farm where she died in 1862 and had ever since resided.
