Travis "T.W." Wheelock, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the age of 79. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Friday in Brown, Owens & Brumley's Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment: T.W. will be laid to rest in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. T.W. served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He and his wife, Mary, have been married for 56 years and have three sons. T.W. retired from U.S. Steel and later worked for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department for several years. T.W. was a private pilot and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He served with the Civil Air Patrol for 25 years. He also attained his FAA aircraft and powerplant license. In 1992, T.W. completed building a Steen Skybolt biplane and was a lifetime member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in North Richland Hills. T.W. was preceded in death by his son, Travis W. Wheelock II. Survivors: Loving wife, Mary Wheelock; sons, Terry Wheelock and M. Dean Wheelock and wife, Charlene; grandchildren, Chris Wheelock and Michelle Wheelock; and other family.
