Joseph Frank Mink, prominent Itawamba land owner and farmer, fell from his seat in the Itawamba County Courthouse on May 4, 1949 where he was a witness in a law suit then being tried, dead from a heart ailment. Dr. W. L. Orr who was called immediately for an examination pronounced him dead in less than 5 minutes from the time he fell over. He was 65 years old. He was a son of one of Northeast Itawamba’s oldtime and beloved Methodist Circuit riders, and he was a devout Christian and a leader in his community. Within the last week he had completed a new home for himself and his family, but he had not moved into it.

Funeral services were held May 6 at the New Home Cemetery, about 5 miles South of Red Bay in Itawamba County.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ida Reeves Mink, and seven children and four children by a former marriage. His children are: Floyd Mink of Cleveland, Ohio, Audie Mink, Mrs. Don Scott and Orlis, Onise, George T., Lorece, Hazel, Charles and Vernell, all of Red Bay, Rt. 1.
