Claire Simone Souliere, 88, of 37 Alder Lane, Becket, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at her home after a long illness.

Born in Sorel, Province of Quebec, Canada on February 18, 1922, she was the daughter of Felix and Parmelee Chalifoux Valois. The family immigrated to Vermont when she was a small child. She attended schools in Canada and Vermont. As a teenager, the family moved to Springfield, Massachusetts. She became a naturalized citizen on January 16, 1948. Claire and her family came to the Berkshires first as a summer resident then later as a permanent resident of Becket around 1975.

Claire was a homemaker most of her life. She and her husband owned and operated, Souliere Building Corp, for 30 years. She was then employed by Steiger's in Longmeadow for 10 years.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church, and had been a communicant of the former St. Matthew Church in Becket and St. Patrick Church in Hinsdale.

Claire was a past president of the Greater Springfield Home Builders Association Auxiliary. She was an active member and served on the board of the Becket Council On Aging.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and gardening; but, most of all, she enjoyed her family.

Claire is survived by her husband, Wesley J. Souliere. They recently celebrated sixty-eight years together. They married on April 18, 1942 in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Claire also leaves one daughter, Dolores M. Adkins and her husband, Larry of Sweetwater, Tennessee; three sons, Roland Souliere and his wife, Glenda, of Friendswood, Texas, Armand Souliere and his wife, Sherry of Longmeadow, Mass., and Michael Souliere and his wife, Deborah, of Springfield; a son-in-law, Roger Nimon of Granbury, Texas; and a daughter-in-law, Diana Souliere of Marionville, Missouri. She also leaves thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Agatha Boutin of Barton, Vermont.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Sylvia C. Nimon, of Bedford, Texas, and a son, Roger Souliere, of Crane, Missouri; two brothers, Adolphe Valois of Barton, Vermont, and Didace Valois of Warren, Massachusetts; and two sisters, Helen Guay of Springfield, and Therese Casavant of Springfield.
