Ruby Grace Peery was the 4th oldest of 10 children of Milton Travis and Mary Lou Elpha McDearman Webb. She was a faithful member of Jolley Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Ore Springs, which adjoins the cemetery. She was a homemaker and known as an exceptional hostess with a big heart. Sunday dinner after worship services, her large extended family had an open invitation to be at their home for a wonderfully prepared meal. A prize possession of mine is a tatted dresser scarf that was made by Ruby, dated 1922 and framed by her daughter/my mother as a gift to me many years after her death.

Ruby Grace Webb married John Bryant Peery on December 25, 1919 at the home of her parents. Her paternal grandfather, Rev. Clement Clark McDearman, officiated the ceremony.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Milt and Effie Webb; brothers, Horace Webb, and Don Webb; sisters, Jimmye Webb, and Pauline Maddox.

She was survived by her husband, John Peery; two children, Mary Lou (Bill) Tyree and Paul (Jean) Peery; six grandchildren: Frank (Pat) Tyree, Peggy (Jim) Flowers, Ben Tyree, Janice (Gary) Foster, Bob Tyree, and Paula Peery; two great-grandchildren, Kim Foster and Keith Flowers; two step-grandchildren, Mike and Dycus Bennett; brothers, Gus H. (Eunice) Webb, Wade C. Webb, T.D. (Gin) Webb; sister, Lottie Fisher, and many devoted nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ruby Peery passed away after an extended illness following a fractured hip, kidney failure, and complications from diabetes, at Henry County General Hospital at the age of 77 years, 6 months, 3 days. Eleven days earlier, her brother, Don, whom was a constant companion in her life, died, and it seemed that Ruby made peace with death after being visited at that somber occasion by all those she truly cared about. She will always be missed.

She was buried in the Jolley Springs Cemetery alongside many other family members. I cannot fathom a more loving mother and grandmother and still hold her dear in my heart. Hopefully I inherited a few of her characteristics, but know I received my red hair from her and believe that I love and enjoy my own grandchildren as much as she did hers!
