MRS. AMANDA WHITE
The sudden death of Mrs. Amanda White, one of Chariton's pioneer ladies, which occurred on Wednesday evening, November 13th, 1912, following a stroke of paralysis which she sustained about noon the same day, came as a great shock to the family and friends.
Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. Geo. R. Chambers, rector of St. Andrew's church, were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Graves, on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.
Amanda Reynolds was born in Madison county, Kentucky, on August 11th, 1839. When but four years of age she moved with her parents to Danville, Ind., where she grew to womanhood, and where, on August 28th, 1856, she was united in marriage to David F. White.
They came to Iowa in the same year, where they resided until death, Mr. White having passed away on September 13th, 1882. For the past nine years Mrs. White made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Graves.
During her long residence in Lucas county of fifty-six years, she became widely acquainted and made fast friends of all with whom she came in contact. She was ever kind and helpful to others and her many noble deeds will be held in grateful remembrance.
When but twenty years of age she united with the Christian church, of which she remained an active member until death.
She had one brother, Francis, who died on October 19th, 1864. Her father, James Reynolds, died in Chariton on June 15th, 1879, and her mother, Mrs. Permelia Reynolds, passed away here on April 24th, 1889.
She is survived by three children, Geo. W. White, of Whitebreast township, Mrs. C. A. Carlson, of Decatur county, and Mrs. Guy Graves, of Chariton, all of whom were present at the last sad rites. They will have the deep sympathy of this community in their great grief.
