Surviving are six children, Frances (Clyde) Miller, Nashville, TN; Bill (Mary Lou) Tyree, Brentwood, TN; Mary Ann (Bay) Roberts, Lewisburg; Ruth (Melvin) Shoaf, Whites Creek, TN; Doris (Paul) Webb, Lewisburg; and David (Marion) Tyree, Mesquite, TX; 25 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister, Irene Hamlin, Lewisburg; half-sisters, Grace Rone, McMinnville, and Dot Whorley, Nashville, and one half-brother, Claude Watson, Nashville.
Sallie Lee Tyree was a member of the Iris Society, Lewisburg Home Demonstration Club, and a long-time member of Church Street Church of Christ.
To her friends, she was Sallie Lee, but she was Mother and Grandmother to all the family. Everyone congregated at her home for Christmas Day, with many never having missed. The amount of food prepared changed over the years as the family grew, but the menu remained the same. One of the most time-consuming and favorite was her fruitcake. Grandmother polished the floors before everyone's arrival at their house on Mooresville Hwy, while Granddaddy cut down a tree on the home place and stoked the fireplace on Christmas Day. Many of the gifts received throughout the years were homemade. After the evening meal, hymns were sung as the day would come to a close. Even after her death, we all continued to go to "Grandmother's" for Christmas. She was much-loved by all her family. Due to the large number of family members, you could often see Grandmother make the trek out to the mailbox in order to send out birthday cards. Because of her love for us, we too loved each other with many cousins participating in one another's weddings.
Sallie Lee Tyree will be laid to rest at Lone Oak Cemetery beside her husband of 67 Years, 0 Months, 3 Days.
