Peter Pitzen came to America and settled in northwest Ohio sometime prior to his marriage to Catherine Jacklin, born April 1823 in Wershoven, Germany, on June 9, 1845 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Maumee, Ohio. By December of 1848 he purchased 80 acres of farm land in Providence Township, Lucas County, Ohio. He lived there with his mother, brothers and sisters, along with the parents and siblings of his wife. He purchased the first Pitzen property in his name on December 27, 1848. It was 80 acres in section 20, Providence Township, Lucas County, Ohio. Peter and Catherine had nine children that we know of: Philomena, Mathias, Barbara, Mary Ann, John, Frederick, Peter, Katherine and Steven. When Peter died he was living with his son, Mathias and his family in Mercer County, Ohio.
