Thomas Abbey, IV, the son of Thomas Abby/Abbe, III and Penelope Terry, was born on March 22, 1765 in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut. His paternal grandparents were Captain Thomas Abbe, Jr.(II) and his first wife Mary Pease, the daughter of Capt. John Pease, Jr. and Margaret Adams.

Thomas, Abby, IV and his first wife Ruth Bush, the daughter of Jonathan Bush and Patience Killam, were married in Enfield on January 9, 1787. Her father Jonathan Bush was a Captain either in the Revolution or served in the state militia. About 1800 he moved to Chenango County, New York, and for many years kept a hotel at Oxford. He later moved to a farm near the present town of Guilford.

Thomas and Ruth lived in Oxford, New York and later Ellington, New York. Ruth died on September 8, 1822 in Genessee County, New York. They were the parents of the following children named as Abbey with the first 4 born in Enfield:

Henry or Harry - b. 4 Sep 1787 (m. Eve Ingersol on 1 May 1814) --- Harriet - b. Jan 23, 1791 (- m/1. ___ Knowlton - they had a son & daughter / - m.2. _______ Gibbs); --- Horace - b. 28 Sep 1793 (He resided in Columbus, Pennsylvania; then removed to Kentucky. He had a daughter Sarah, who never married, but settled in California where she was killed by some unknown person.) and Horatius - b. 27 Jun 1795 - m. Martha Smith.

Daughter Hadassah Ruth Abby Terry was born on 21 Dec 1796 in Suffix County, New York. She married Apollos or Apallas Terry, the son of Isaac Terry, Jr. and Hannah Abbe of Enfield, on January 28, 1820 in Chenango County, New York. Hannah Abbe was the daughter of John Abbe, Jr. and Sarah Root. Apollos and Hadassah later lived in Sangerfield, New York and Broken Straw, Erie County, Pennsylbania. They were living in Grayson County, Kentucky at the time of the 1850 Census.

The other children of Thomas and Ruth (Bush) Abbey were: Herman Abbey, an unknown daughter and Harvey Abbey. They were born between 1800-1810 according to the 1810 Census of Oxford, Chenango County, New York.

It is not known when or where Thomas Abby, IV and the wife, who is buried with him in the Fuller Cemetery near Duff, Grayson County, Kentucky, were married. Mrs. Thomas Abby, IV died sometime before the 1850 Census of Grayson County. She was buried in what is now known as the Fuller Cemetery. Thomas Abby, whose name is spelled as Abby in the microfilmed death records of Grayson County, Kentucky, joined her there after his death on August 31, 1855 at the age of 88.
