James M. Lewis, retired teamster, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Orrell, 3 miles northeast of Boulder late last night following an illness of a year. He had been bedfast since Christmas, and death was believed to have been caused by complications.
Born in Carrigan township on March 13, 1858, he had resided in this vicinity for the last 26 years. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Lewis and married Miss Martha Smith March 6, 1884 in Clinton county. Mrs. Lewis is now deceased. He was a member of the First Methodist church.
Survivors include two sons, Orville Lewis of Centralia, and Virgil Lewis of Iowa City, Iowa, three daughters, Mrs. Corby Morris, Sr., of Centralia, Mrs. Ben Padberg of Fairman, and Mrs. Charles Orrell of near Boulder, one brother, William H. Lewis of Flagler Beach, Fla., 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at the First Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. George Whitten officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. Friends may call at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Corby Morris at 412 Allison street, Centralia, after 2 p.m. Saturday.
