Mr. Boardman comes of good New England stock. He was born at Lennex, Mass., but his father early removed to Wethersfield in this state. He was apprenticed, as a young man, in the office of the Hartford TIMES, but left that journal the the age of 23 to take an editorial position on a Norwich paper. He subsequently removed to Wethersfield and went into the publishing business. A few years later he opened a grocery store at the same place. He soon disposed of his interest in that concern and came to Hartford, where he entered the wholesale coffee and spice business which he carried on successfully until his retirement from active life a few years ago.
In politics Mr. Boardman was a democrat. He represented Wethersfield in the legislature in 1872 and also served as commissioner of Hartford county. Mr. Boardman has always been identified with the Methodist denomination and has added materially for many years in its advancement here. He has also been interested in the business growth of the city and was, at the time of his death, a director of the Orient Insurance company. Mr Boardman was connected with St John's Masonic lodge of this city, and was, in former years, a prominent Odd Fellow. He was married in 1828 to Miss Mary, daughter of the late Captain Daniel Francis; who died a few years ago. A daughter, Mrs. George W Atwood, of this city, and two sons, William F J and Thomas J, of the firm of William Boardman & Sons, survive him.
The funeral services will be held at his late residence tomorrow, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. It is expected that Presiding Elder Wardell will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Kavanaugh, pasteor of the South Park M. E. Chruch
