Arthur M. Brewer, 82, of Lubbock passed away as the result of a stroke on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in a Lubbock hospital. He had lived in Lubbock for 44 years and formerly owned Arthur's Custom Kitchens.

In recent years, he worked for and retired from the United States Chamber of Commerce. Brewer was a graduate of North Side High School in Fort Worth, the University of North Carolina and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was an ordained Baptist minister and pastored churches in Fort Worth and El Paso.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was proud of his space on the wall of the Lubbock Veterans' Memorial. Art was a Baptist Student Union Director at Tarleton State University and West Texas State University, where he was also a professor of Biblical Studies. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Lubbock, as well as a member of Lions International in both Canyon and Lubbock. He enjoyed his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels.

Art was preceded in death by his mother, Tennie Starks Greer; father, Arthur McNeal Brewer; sister, Edith Hood Dewey; and baby daughter, Susan Gayle Brewer.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Georgia Coleman Brewer; son, Stephen Arthur Brewer of Lubbock; niece, Beverly Murray Moerbe of Fort Worth; and great-nephews, David M. Houck of Houston and R. Paul Houck of Dallas.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, Jan. 20, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. Burial will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service, in Art's honor, will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels or to the Lubbock State School.
