Arthur Brewster Dunning, 85 died June 3, in Mukilteo, WA. Art was born January 5, 1916 in Bonners Ferry, to William F. and Annie Paulina (Olesdatter) Dunning.
He attended school in Bonners Ferry and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School. He continued his education in Washington and became a teacher and then a principal.
He taught in Washington until WWII.
Art was in the Army Signal Corps and spent his time in the Pacific area. His main duty was to go on Japanese held islands and radio the size and possessions of the enemy, while they tried to find and destroy him. He also spent several days on a life raft after his ship was torpedoed.
Upon returning home at the end of the war, he married his long time sweetheart, Louise Mildred Thomas at a church in Spokane, Wash.
They lived in Coeur d'Alene for several years where they both taught school. Cheryl Louise, their daughter was born in 1946 in Spokane, Wash.
They moved to Spokane and continued to teach. Art finished his career as principal of Roosevelt School in Spokane. They moved to Mukilteo seven months ago to be near their daughter and her family.
Art is survived by his daughter Cheri and her husband John Prestek, two granddaughters Krista Allison Prestek and Anna Louisa Prestek; a half-brother Roy and Shirley Dunning of Moyie Springs. Also numerous nieces and nephews including Don & Jean Dunning, and Leanna and Don Morice, all of Bonners Ferry.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, his nine brothers and sisters, their spouses and his wife, Louise who died on May 30. A memorial service will be held in Spokane, Wash
