On November 14, 1892, she was united in marriage to Michael Abel at Lisbon, Iowa. They made their home in Pioneer township, Cedar county, for thirty-four years.
To this union were born five children, three boys and two girls. One of the boys died in infancy. She was also preceded in death by her husband January 16, 1925.
Mrs. Abel leaves to mourn her departure four children, Mrs. Ruth Lubkemann of Clarence; Frank of Waterloo; Lois and Willard at home; one step-daughter, Mrs. Ira Davis, of Martelle; one brother, Irvin Whitman of Lisbon; two half sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Humphrey of Beaver City, Okla., and Mrs. Kate Kuntz of Iowa Falls, and a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her earlier days were spent in the Lisbon community. She taught school for a number of years. Being a member of Lutheran church in which she took an active part for many years. For the past nine years she was a resident of Howard and Blackhawk counties. The past month has been cared for in the homes of her son in Waterloo and daughter at Clarence where she peacefully passed away Sunday morning.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Lubkemann home in Clarence and were conducted by the Rev. C. C. Dillivon, of Olin, Mrs. F. E. Bixler and Mrs. R. C. Kastler sang the hymns with Mrs. J. B. Lane at the piano. Six nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers. The interment was made in the Lisbon cemetery beside her husband.
