Funeral services for Mr. John B. Hooks,78, of Sulphur Springs,In.,were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 19,2004, fron the chapel of Main & Frame Funeral Home in New Castle,IN.

Burial, with full military rites conducted by American Legion Post 137 and VFW Post 1282,was in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle with Rev. Dan Ashner officiating.

Mr. Hooks died Wednesday,August 15 at Regency Place in Greenfield,IN. Retired from Wilson Grain in Sulphur Springs after about 30 years of service, he was Sulphur Springs town marshall for several years and had worked for 15 years at Pendleton Reformatory. he was a member of American Legion Post 137 in New Castle and Sulphur Springs Lions Club. He was a past member of Sulphur Springs Town Board and Volunteer Fire Department.

he also served in the United States Army during World War II. Metals he received included two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, a Silver Star, and several others.

Born October 2,1925,in Livingston, he was the son of the late George T. and Anna Lee (Brown)Hooks.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Erlzie (Logan) Hooks;two daughters,Anna Whisman of Greenfield and Bonnie Hunt of Fishers;a brother, Tom Hooks of Indianapolis,IN;two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
