Luella A. Hopkins, 89, of Cayuga died at 2:28 pm Saturday in Vermillion County Hospital at Clinton.
She was a 1923 graduate of Marshall High School and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1927 from Franklin College. In 1940 she received her master's degree from Indiana University and in 1957 she received her library science degree from Indiana State University.
A teacher and librarian in Vermillion County, her first teaching position was a Perrysville High School in 1927, at Newport High School in 1929 and Cayuga High School from 1932-54. She also taught at North Vermillion High School 1964-67, when she retired.
Her memberships included Cayuga Presbyterian Church, National Education Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Vermillion County Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired Persons, Indiana School Women's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Delta Delta and Perrysville Chapter 302 Order of Eastern Star.
She was born Nov. 17, 1904, in Parke County to Robert and Sarah Thomas Hopkins.
Survivors include three nieces, including Martha Jane Glascock of rural Kingman; four nephews, including Joe Hopkins of Greencastle; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Three sisters, Georgiana Cunningham, Julia Davis and Ruth Maris, and one brother, Robert Hopkins, Jr., preceded her in death.
Services are set for 1:30 pm Wednesday in Cayuga Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Priscilla Bazler officiating. Burial will be in Wolfe Creek Cemetery at Wallace. Friends may call 4-8 pm Tuesday at DeVeter Brothers Funeral Home at Cayuga, where the Perrysville Chapter Order of Eastern Star will conduct memorial services at 7:30 and one hour prior to services at the church.
