BURNET BULLETIN, June 25, 1936

"MRS. N. E. GARRETT
Mrs. N.E. Garrett died June 16th, 1936, at Iredell, Texas. The body was interred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Burnet.
Mrs. Garrett's maiden name was Nancy Ellen Caviness. She was born in Arkansas on September 1, 1845, making her, at the time of death, 90 years, 9 months and 16 days of age. With her parents she moved to this section of Texas when seven years old, and spent the remainder of her life in San Saba, Llano and Burnet counties.
In January 1867, she was united in marriage to H.A. Chadwick. From this union five daughters survive- Mrs. R.C. Beaver, Arcadia, Texas, Mrs. Dock Maxwell, Burnet, Texas, Mrs. J.S. Miller, Iredell, Texas, Mrs. Gus Nelson, British Columbia, and Mrs. Chas. Wilson, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Her husband preceded her in death many years, and on January 1st, 1907 she was married to J.C. Garrett, who died more than three years ago.
It can be said of Mrs. Garrett that she was a true pioneer. During the 83 years she lived in this section of Texas she witnessed may transformations in the country and the people. When, she first came, the Indians were making their periodical raids, killing and plundering the people, and she did her share in meeting and overcoming the hazards and hardships of those pioneer days. The later generations owe a debt of gratitude to people like Mrs. Garrrett, which most of us have never recognized."
