Josiah Perry Gaston, son of Thomas Logan Gaston (1805-1854) and Prudence (Kilgore) Gaston, married Miss Martha Elvina Jones on August 30th 1855 and had the following known children:
Russel Jones (1858-1921)
Thomas Pinckney (1860-1937)
Parley Lafayette (1865-1892)
Edwin Lamar (1868-1947)
Minnie Lee (1873-1959)
Mary Elvina "Mamie" (1876-1941)
Clarence Perry (1879-1940)
Addie Martha (1882-1941)

During the Civil War, Josiah Gaston served as a 2nd Lieut. in the 64th Regiment, North Carolina State Troops; whose members were recruited predominately from the Western North Carolina counties of Madison, Henderson and Polk. The unit served in North Carolina and East Tennessee; its service proved invaluable in the defense of vital and strategic Saltworks and railroads.

Josiah Perry Gaston departed this life on May 5th 1890 in
Candler, North Carolina; where he had lived for the last 35 years.
