Carroll L. Johnson 71, of Rutherfordton died on Friday March 20, 2009 at Rutherford Hospital. A native of Haywood County, he was born on December 24, 1937 to the late Lawton M. Johnson and Flora Pitts Johnson Burress. He was a US Navy Veteran and former member of the Rosman Rescue and Fire Department. He was retired from Champion International after 20 years of service and was also retired from Reeves Brothers after 14 years of Service. His father preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Flora Burress, his wife of 50 years Wanda T. Johnson of the home. Two daughters Kathy Nelon and Lisa Nelon, brother Charles E. Johnson of Tennessee, sister Shirley Phillips of Canton NC. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 22 at Crowe's Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 23 at 10 am at the Western Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with the Rev. Paul Nelon officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718 Oklahoma City OK 73123-1718.
