Bernice M. Sunday Jacobs, "Kahsennenha'wi" 75, 886 River Road, Snye, Quebec, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, at her home. Bernice was born November 15, 1934, in Snye, Quebec, daughter of John B. Sunday and Louse White. She attended schools in Snye. On June 20, 1955, she married Donald P. Jacobs Sr. at the St. Regis Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Jacobs officiating. He predeceased her on January 12, 1986. She once worked at Rockwell Industrial and General Electric, both in Syracuse. After returning to Akwesasne, she worked at Akwesasne Headstart Program, where she was a "Tota." She was a member of Kateri Circle and Quebec Native Women's Association. She enjoyed basketmaking, quilting and picking sweetgrass. She was an avid collector of antiques and china, and also enjoyed going to garage sales. She loved playing ace to king and gambling. Bernice is survived by her 10 children, Ernest Jacobs of Montreal, Phillip Jacobs Jr. of Snye, Helena Jacobs of Syracuse, Louis "Luigi" and Daniel Jacobs of Snye, Carmella Colon and her husband Pete of Cornwall, Katrina "Digga" Jacobs and her companion, David Colon of Rooseveltown, Regina Jacobs of Snye, Christopher "LaBoy" Jacobs of Syracuse, and Ira Jacobs of Snye. She is also survived by 44 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a chosen brother, Dennis Lazore of Snye. She was predeceased by a brother, Archie Sunday, in 1995. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse. Services will Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt.
