He was born in Marshall and had been a resident of Hopewell for the past 30 years. Mr. Rice served in the Navy during World War II and was a self-employed tree cutter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Dora Norton Rice; a brother, Jimmy Rice; and a sister, Willie Wanda Rice.
Surviving are three sisters, Sally R. Rogers of Sylmar, Calif. and Lula R. Mundy and Mary R. Payne, both of Asheville; three brothers, Odus Rice and Clayton Rice, both of Hopewell, Va., and Pastor Billy J. Rice Sr. of Glen Alpine; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Asheville.
The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
