(from San Antonio Express, Feb. 26, 1960)
AUTO CRASH VICTIM Andrew Jackson Frantz, 50, 306 Carnahan, was dead on arrival at Robert B. Green Hospital shortly after noon Saturday, after being crushed in an automobile crash on the Broadway Expressway leg near the St. Mary's St. overpass. . .
Frantz, an appliance salesman, was alone in his car, which was traveling east.
Patrolman Robert Aldrich identified the driver of the other car as Alamo Heights Patrolman Andrew Ankrom, 52, 406 Cass. Ankrom, on duty and in uniform, was driving an Alamo Heights police car which his office said was being taken to the San Antonio police radio shop for repair. Ankrom, whose car was moving west, told Aldrich the steering mechanism of his car locked on a downgrade, causing it to jump the divider and crash into the left front side of Frantz's.. . .
Ankrom was treated at Robert B. Green for cuts on the hands. He was released at the accident scene on temporary bail bond for negligent homicide, which San Antonio Police Chief George Bichsel said constitutes "being booked by bond." . . .
Frantz is survived by his wife, Mrs. Winifred Anthony Frantz.
Rosary for Frantz will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Zizik-Kearns-Downing Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. Monday, followed by Requiem Mass at 9:a.m. in St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Church.
Burial will be in San Fernando Cemetery.
