Horace Oscar (Jack) Deuel was the son of Irving Eugene Deuel of Saratoga, New York, and Julia Belle Sapp of Grimes Co., TX. Jack lived most of his life in El Paso, TX, and was working to help his family as early as age nine as a Western Union delivery boy as his father was killed in Mexico in 1908 in a tragic mining accident. He started working as a mechanic on Price's Dairy trucks in the very early 1920's and worked with trucks and automobiles the rest of his career, eventually heading up the Service Department at Lone Star Motors in El Paso. Jack was always the one who made himself available to help anyone who needed it.

Jack was married firstly to Ila Mae Lorene Jones of Stephens Co., OK, (b. 1902 - d. 1986)and divorced by 1933. With Lorene they had Ila Mae Lorraine (1921 - Living) and Wesley Eugene (1923 - Living), both in El Paso, TX. Jack married secondly to Mildred Margaret Todd in 1934. She was born in 1909, in Mena, Polk Co., AR and died in 1972, in El Paso, TX. They had Sallie Lee in 1943, in El Paso, TX.

Jack was married thirdly to Ruby Smith Brown of Oklahoma. Jack was known throughout his life as one who loved life itself and was always active, whether it be fishing, boating, bowling, square dancing or being active with the Shriners. At least two of his grandsons can remember being rescued more than once each out on the road at odd hours of the night. And this grandson has always known what a great man he was and what a terrific example he set for so many others. And no one can recall ever seeing him angry.
