First saw Hazel Farmer when he was riding horseback past her church; she was standing on church steps with hair down to her knees - curly from just being released from braid. He had not even met her but told his companions "I am going to marry that girl" and he did! They were married in an apple orchard 23oct1923 & had 12 children including 9 sons & 3 dghs & 4 children that died young: Pleasant Jr; Geraldine; Mildred; Marvin Russell Dean; Louis Damon "Dude"' Keith Maynard; Mitchell Vaughn; Richard Edmond; Wayne Mansfield; twins Phyllis Ann & Phillip Allen; & Patrick Scott. Never did ask her why the 1st 3 children never got a middle name. Pleas & Hazel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in their home (Eaton Preble Co OH) with a large group of their family & friends. Pleas had never been to a doctor until he developed gangrene in his toes & required a leg amputation in the 70's. After Hazel died of pancreatic cancer; Pleas lived with a sis & then a bro before settling with his dgh Phyllis in Phoenix Az. He died there of cancer of lungs in her home.
