FORMER MERCHANT OF TIMPSON DIES AT HENDERSON

Funeral Services 4 P.M. Today; Brother of Ernest Hamlett of Timpson.

Death today claimed Bruce Hamlett, 78-year-old Rusk county native, a former merchant, shoe salesman and stockman.

Hamlett had been ill for several months at his country home, north of the city. Death came at 11 o'clock this morning.

Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon at the A. Crim Funeral chapel. The Rev. H. Marshall Smith, pastor of the First Baptist Church here, will officiate. Interment wil (sp) (will) be at the Lakewood Memorial Park, A. Crim in charge.

Hamlett was born at Concord, Rusk county, on July 4, 1862, the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Hamlett. He was the grandson of the late J. S. Hubbard. Educated in the common schools of East Texas, Hamlett completed his education at Souls University in New Orleans, La.

The deceased began his career as operator of a general merchandise store at Timpson, the largest store of its kind in that section for many years. Because of failing health, he went on the road as a salesman for the P. J. Willis and Company of Galveston, later being connected with a leading shoe wholesaler in St. Louis, Mo. For 16 years he was a traveling salesman.

On Sept. 6, 1904, Hamlett was married to Miss Martha Buckner of Fredericktown, Missouri. He moved to Henderson in 1906, taking charge of the Rusk County Fruit and Vegetable Company, which he owned and operated. From 1920 to 1932, he operated a grocery and feed store here, afterwards being engaged in farming and stock raising.

Hamlett is survived by his widow and one brother, Ernest Hamlett of Timpson, and two nephews, Paul and Edwin Perkins of Nacogdoches.
