Alvin B. Long Rites Tuesday

Funeral services conducted at the Si Johnson home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, were in charge of Rev. J. Perry Ping. Attending the casket were Marvin Hall, Enlo Crisp, Hugo Reamer, Si Johnson, Dick Bell and Tom Otis, all personal friends of Mr. Long over a long period of years.

In charge of the beautiful floral tributes to this good citizen were Mesdames Si Johnson, Hugo Reamer, Sam Spradling, Dick Bell, Tom Blassingame, Marvin Hall, Enlo Crisp and Miss Frances Morris.

Native of Christian county, Kentucky where he was born on March 2, 1878. He came to Hexas [sic] in 1885 settling in Young county. On September 6, 1906 he married Miss Ola Briscoe in Graham. To this union two sons were born, Rex having died here in June of 1936, and for whom a cowboy funeral was held from the home of Cy Johnson. His father's funeral was held Tuesday from the same home.

Surviving are his wife and son, Floyd, best known as "Buddy." A grandson Rex Jr., life and light of the grandfather's daily existence, also survives.

The family moved to Donley county about 1900, stayed a few years and then moved back to Young county. Again Donley county became the family home a few years later. Mr. Long followed farming, residing for a number of years in the Spade Flat community. For the past few months Mr. and Mrs. Long had been on the ranch of his sister, Mrs. M.T. Howard southwest of town.

His sisters are Mrs. M.T. Howard of Clarendon, Mrs. V.M. Davidson, New Castle; Mrs. Kate Bowers and Miss Willie Watson of Graham; Mrs. Mollie Ledbetter, Wichita, Kansas. Brothers are Chas. Long, Ft. Belknap; Henry of Canyon, Wint Long of Graham.

He was for the past thirteen years a member of the Baptist church of Hedley, having been converted at an early age.

Alvin B Long married Miss Ola Brisco on 6 September 1906 at Graham, Texas. The couple lived in the Tonk Valley Community until 1923 when they moved to Clarendon, Texas. Two children were born to this union, one child preceded his father in death.

Mr. Long moved to Graham, Texas as a child with his parents. He graduated from Graham High School. Mr. Long was a former employee at The Graham Leader newspaper.

Survived by his wife; one son - Rex Long, Sr; one grandson.

Mrs. Long returned to Graham following the funeral to make her home.
