J. Stewart Carlson, 94, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Rio, and Brighton, Colo., died March 25, 2010, in Mesa.

Stewart was born Feb. 18, 1916, in Alpha. He married Martha Jane Allsup of Monmouth in 1940. She died in 2006.
They farmed in the Rio area until 1971, when they moved to Brighton, where he operated his own office repair business. Martha was employed as an administrator for a local Real Estate Company. They retired to Mesa in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Susan and Thomas Gardner, Tempe, Ariz.; a son and daughter-in-law, David Lee and Mary Carlson, San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
