She was born Dec. 10, 1893, at Keuterville to pioneer homesteaders Henry and Elizabeth Lightfield Forsmann.When she was 16 she moved to Spokane to take a job as a house maid.She married Lee Russell of Joseph, Ore., in 1914 and they moved to a homestead ranch near Joseph, where they operated a dairy and raised hogs.Her husband died in 1929 and she continued operating the ranch until she was 61, when she built and managed Russell's Restaurant at Wallowa Lake.
She retired at the age of 73 and traveled extensively.
She was an active member of St. Katherine's Catholic Church and Altar Society at Enterprise, Ore., the Hurricane Creek Grange and several Joseph social clubs.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, tatting, rugmaking, needlepoint and gardening.Survivors include a daughter, Edna Roundy of Joseph; two sons, Verne Russell of Joseph and Daniel Russell of Bellevue, Wash.; a sister, Sister Mary Edith of Cottonwood; three brothers, Herman Forsmann of Cottonwood, Charley B. Forsmann of Lewiston and Frank Forsmann of Portland, Ore., 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, George; three sisters, Mary Lay, Kathryn Goeckner and Anna Hill; and eight brothers, George Forsmann, Robert Forsmann, Lou Forsmann, Ben Forsmann, Lawrence Forsmann, Henry Forsmann, Alvin Forsmann and Leo Forsmann.
Funeral Mass was celebrated May 3 at St. Katherine's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Hopp officiating.Burial was at Prairie Creek Cemetery at Joseph.
