She went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, while living in a private care home.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1914, in Van Zandt County, to William H. and Mary Miles Hindman. She moved to Spur in 1924, where she attended Dry Lake School and graduated from Spur High School in 1932. She moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech and later graduated from Draughn's Business School. She married Lavell J. Abbott on June 1, 1940, in Lubbock. He preceded her in death in 2000.

She worked as a bookkeeper for The Lubbock Avalanche Journal and KFYO Radio until they began their family. After their children were reared, she worked for W.D. Turner Const. Co. until her retirement in 1983.

She taught the Rachel Sunday School Class and was a member of the Good News Sunday School Class. She worked in Vacation Bible School and taught Training Union. She was a Cub Scout leader for both of her sons. She was a member of Lubbock Christian Women's Association, WMU, the Reader's Club and the Lubbock Knife & Fork Club. The family will accept friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sanders Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the Africa Ministry Project, c/o Mary Cato, 4910 17th Street, Lubbock, TX 79416 or to a favorite charity.
