Francis was the son of Levi Brown and Ellen Janet Wells. He married Mertie E Atkinson on March 9, 1881 at Cazenovia, NY. They were the parents of 4 children: Clarence Compton, Mildred, Wilhelmina, and Willard.

The Sac Sun - Thursday , January 27th, 1944 - Final rites for FS Brown, aged Sac City resident, were held at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home at 2 on Saturday of last week. Pall bearers were Drexel Winkler, Tom Topley Ray Wilson, Garland Stadlman, Clarence Brown Fr, and Clyde brown.

The following obituary was read at the service: Francis Brown was born July 24, 1855 at Chittenango Falls, NY and passed away at his home in Sac City Jan 10, 1955 at the age of 88 years, 5 months, and 24 days. He was one of a family of 4 children born to Mr and Mrs Levi Brown. His parents and brothers preceded his in death.

When Mr Brown was still a young man he taught school for several years. On March 9, 1878 he was united in marriage to Mertie E Atkinson at Cazenovia, NY, where they resided for 11 years where Mr Brown operated a flour mill. In 1893 they went west and settled on a farm near Schaller, IA.

In 1896 they moved to a farm north of Sac City where they resided for about 19 years. After they left the farm they made their home in Sac City. Mr and Mrs Brown observed their 63rd wedding anniversary in 1943.

On July 30th, 1943 Mrs Brown was taken after a serious illness of near 5 years duration. She was bedfast for that period of time. Mr Brown was her constant companion and helper throughout the years. They were very close to each other and her going was a definite low to him.

Four children were born to this union, all of whom survive to mourn the loss of a kind father. They are namely: Clarence C Brown of Webb, IA; Mildred A (Mrs Harry S Allen); Wilhelmina (Mrs WJ Stadlman) and Willard Brown, all of Sac City. There are also 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Mrs Eva Woodcock of Cazenovia, NY and Mrs Ida Wells of Lynd, MN.

Mr Brown was County Treasurer of Sac County for awhile. Up until a few weeks ago he was about as usual. On Dec 27, he was taken to his bed with a bad cold and this and other complications proved to be fatal.
