Mr. Thomas W. Simms Sr., one of this county's oldest & most widely known citizens, died at his home in this city at 6 o'clock Wednesday morning of infirmities incident to age.

Mr. Simms was the son of the late Francis Simms & Alethaire Spalding Simms, pioneer citizens who emigrated from Maryland to this county more than a century ago, & was born on December 24, 1830. Had he lived until next December 24th, he would have celebrated his ninety-third birthday anniversary.

On November 4, 1851, Mr. Simms was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Montgomery, also a member of one of the county's oldest & most influential families. To this union nine children were born, three of whom died in early youth.

After 57 years of happy married life, Mrs. Simms passed away on August 3, 1908. Later Mr. Simms was married to Miss Mary Lee Simms of this county, who survives him.

Of this aged citizen it might well be said that his family was a remarkable one. He had the honor to be the father of three of the county's most prominent citizens, Thomas W. Simms, Jr., who was for several years a leading lawyer in this city, & who died on August 14, 1901; John Simms, a leading stockman & farmer, who died on September 27, 1907, & Ben F. Simms, who was one of the best known farmers & dealers in fine cattle & mules in Central Kentucky for many years, & who died on February 16, 1918. He also had the honor to have 50 grandchildren, 36 of whom survive, & 70 great-grandchildren, 57 of whom are living.

Surviving Mr. Simms, besides his widow, are the following children: Mrs. George E. Medley, Owensboro; Mrs. C.J. Haydon, of this city, & Mrs. Ben A Spalding, of this county.

Funeral services were held at St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Requiem High Mass at 9 o'clock Friday morning & interment will follow in the church cemetery near town.
