"Deplorable Accident
Last Saturday night Mrs. George Chitty, aged about 60 years died as the result of an injury she sustained when she jumped from a surrey, when the mule team drawing the vehicle became frightened and began to run. The accident happened on the Dixie Highway between Myrtle Springs and Canto, just a few hundred yards west of the Blue Springs school house.
Mrs. Chitty's head struck the gravel roadbed and although the skull was not broken, the impact produced concussion of the brain, the victim never regaining consciousness during the eight hours she lived after taking the leap. The driver, a Mr. Terry, and related to the deceased, remained in the surrey and was not hurt.
The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at High cemetery. Bereaved relatives and many sorrowing friends attending the last sad rites. A husband survives, also married children whose names were not learned. The family home was in the vicinity."
