Dorris M. Fadden, 87, passed away March 11, 2010 at home in St. Petersburg, Fla. surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 29, 1922 in Lake Placid to Harold J. and Almeda White.
Dorris was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, class of 1941 where she met her husband. She married Robert L. Fadden on July 2, 1943 while he was on leave from the U.S. Army. After their marriage in Lake Placid, Robert left for Europe where he served during World War II until 1946. Dorris wanted to help with the war effort and moved to Schenectady where she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" making submarine parts at General Electric.
After a three-and-a-half year separation, the couple honeymooned in St. Petersburg then moved to Syracuse where they resided for more than 40 years.
She enjoyed her career in advertising and was a partner in Retailers Advertising Agency until she left to raise a family in 1952.
Dorris was a loving, caring and devoted mother and wife. She was very kind and remembered by her warm, friendly smile. She was later active in school, church, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and enjoyed baking, china painting and other creative arts.
She worked at Syracuse University College of Law and SU Campus Security and Safety, then worked at various retail establishments until she retired in 1980.
In 1988 the couple moved to Lake Placid and spent the winters in St. Petersburg until 1995 when they became permanent Florida residents.
