ASHEVILLE — Charles L. Ball passed away Thursday. May 9, 2002, at the VA Medical Center.

Mr. Ball was a native of Buncombe County and the son of Muriel Allman Ball of Weaverville and the late John Hugh Ball. He was a veteran of the Air Force and a former middle school teacher in Marion, S.C. He was a member of The Church of God in Asheville.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Ball is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathleen Ball; sons, Charles A. Tony Ball of Hendersonville and Dennis Dettweiler of Asheville; daughters, Katrinka Hipps of Candler, Telia Pergram of Alexander and Heidi Crouch of Somerville, Ala.; two sisters, Loretta Ballard and Theolla Holdridge, both of Weaverville.

The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Faith at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Enka. Pastor Bryant Owen will officiate, assisted by W.C. Godfrey. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The Buncombe County Veterans Memorial Team will conduct military graveside rites.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel.
