Death came suddenly to William Gildemeister, 73, resident of this Brooten village since 1934, Wednesday evening, October 3, as the result of a heart attack. Mr. Gildemeister had enjoyed some fishing during the afternoon and was apparently his usual self. He ate a hearty supper and retired shortly after nine o'clock. He passed away at about 10:30 o'clock.
William Carl Gildemeister was born in Polnow, Germany to August & Wilhelmina Gildemeister. He came to this country with his parents and 4 sisters at the age of 7. They settled in southern Minnesota where he completed his educated in Elkton. Attaining manhood, he was united in marriage to Minnie Kraft, December 14, 1905, the ceremony taking place in Elkton. He was engaged in farming for a time and also operated a creamery. In 1914, he purchased a farm in the North Forks township and operated the same until 1934, when he turned the operation over to his son, George, and moved to Brooten. He became interested in the co-operative creamery here and served as it's manager and treasurer for 24 years, retiring from this duty in February 1950. During his residence in North Fork, he was also a member of the school board in District 191.
Mr. Gildemeister was a good husband and father, was respected for his sound business judgement and was conscientious and dependable in his business affairs. He was affiliated with the German Lutheran church at Elkton, and later with the Big Grove church.
Surviving are Mrs. Gildemeister and four children. Mrs. Lavina Fauskee, Wauwatosa, Wis.; Mrs. Orten Herbrandson, Lawndale, Calif.; George on the farm in North Fork, and Wilbert of Brooten. Left to mourn his death also are two sisters, Mrs. August Neighbour, Dexter, and Mrs. Pete Zils, Rochester. There are eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two sisters have preceded him in death.
