AUGUST R. BECKER
August Rhinehart Becker was born May 18, 1864, at Freeport, Illinois, and passed away at Chariton, Iowa, Jan. 6, 1943, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 18 days.
He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of four years and grew to manhood in Chariton and vicinity. In 1899 he was married to Josephine Miskimins, who lived but one year and 13 days after marriage.
On June 18, 1912, he was married to Mrs. Jane E. Dunbar, who passed away May 16, 1939.
He followed his profession as a barber, living for a time in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and a number of years in Osceola, Iowa, coming back to Chariton in the year 1929, where he practiced his profession until his retirement in 1940.
He served as a member of the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department for ten years and has maintained his membership in the Masonic Lodge since 1886.
He leaves to mourn his passing a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives, and a host of friends.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. P. Landgraf, of the First Presbyterian church, under the auspices of the Masonic order, were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, at the Miley funeral home and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
