M.M. Powers Dies In Hospital

Melzah Maderia (Bozo) Powers, 57, of 208 Jennings St. died at noon Thursday in a local hospital following a long illness.

He was born at Colcord, May 22, 1912, a son of the late William Morgan and Rose Moore Powers.

He formerly was employed as a state coal inspector for 25 years, a coal inspector for Ogelbay-Norton Coal Co. for three years and had worked for Meadows Lumber Co. for the past 11 years.He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of Raleigh County.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Vipperman Powers, daughter, Mrs. James E. (Kay) Hedrick of Albany, Ga., one son, William Donald of Vermillion, Ohio; one sister Miss Lillian B. Powers of Beckley and six grandchildren.

The body is at the Calfee Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Calfree Chapel with Rev. Jim Franklin in charge. Burial will be in the Ridge Lawn addition of the Sunset Memorial Park.

Fiends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Roman L. Wood, Blane Wood, Dave Parent, Frank Turner, Paul Beasley and Perry Powers.
