May Alice Prater, a resident of Livingston, Texas for 62 years, passed away Friday, July 23 in Kerrville. She was born in Temple on September 4, 1919, the daughter of Annie Louise and Perry A. Bodine.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Francis Prater; son, John Robert Prater; sister, Peggy Mathieu; and brother, Willis R. Bodine.

Remaining survivors are her grandson, John Franklin Prater of Austin, nieces and nephews, Mike Mathieu, Harker Heights; Patsy Beasley, Temple; Nancy Johnson, Montgomery; Tom Moore, College Station; and Dan Utley, Pflugerville. Other survivors include sister-in-law Ganelle Moore, Temple; great-niece Angie Chandler, Kingwood, and daughter-in-law and caregiver Darlene Furguson Graham of Kerrville.

She was married in Temple to Thomas F. Prater on June 8, 1946. One son, John R. (Bob) Prater was born to her and her husband on November 20, 1947.
She received her education in the Temple Public Schools, Temple Jr. College, and Hieronymous Business School. Mrs. Prater loved art and music. She was a member of the Livingston Art League for years as well as the Livingston Music Study Club where she served as president. One of her hobbies was bridge playing . A long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Livingston, she worked as financial secretary there for 15 years. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class and was active in United Methodist Women. For many years she was secretary of the Society of St. Stephen. She had worked as a hospital volunteer, beginning as a Junior Greylady during World War II, and later at the Livingston Hospital. She also was an auxiliary member of the Polk County Emergency Health Board.

Honorary pallbearers are the United Methodist Women and the Friendship Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bob Prater Leadership Award Scholarship through the Livingston Rotary Club or to The First United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00PM Saturday in the First Methodist church in Livingston. Burial will be in Peebles Cemetery. Visitation will be at 5-8 Cochran Funeral Home.
